Computer Studies Made Simple : Data Transmission Mode

Data Transmission Mode

This refers to the method of data transmission

It has got the following three types:

1.Simplex Mode

2.Half Duplex Mode

3.Fuull Duplex Mode

1.Simplex Mode

In this method, the data is transmitted only in one direction.

It is not possible for the data to flow along two directions.

A device with this mode of data transmission can either send or receive the data.

Example is seen in television broadcasting where the signal is sent to the television by the transmitter but cannot be sent back.

Other Examples include:

Examples

Commercial radio and television broadcast (not two-way radio such as walkie-talkies)

Garage door openers

Wireless microphones

Radio controlled models

Public address systems

Surveillance cameras

Pagers

Communication between a mouse and a COMPUTER

Internet multicast

Printers

2.Half Duplex Method

In this method, data can flow in both directions but not at the same time.

It can travel in one direction at a time only.

In other words,a device with this mode of data transmission can send or receive data but not at the same time.

The speed with this type of data transmission is slow.

Example of this data type is seen in internet surfing.

3.Full Duplex Mode:

In this mode of data transmission, data can flow in both directions at the same time.

This implies data can be sent and received at the same time.

This is an effective and efficient mode of data transmission.

Example of this method includes telephone transmission where two people can converse at the same time simultaneously.
